It’s an honour to put on a uniform

29 August 2021

Lolita Jansen, a Law Enforcement Officer in the Transport Enforcement Unit, works at the MyCiTi station in Atlantis. Lolita has always dreamed of being part of uniformed staff and her dream was realised when she landed the job seven years ago. Read more below:

Lolita lives in Mamre and is a mother of three children.

  • Lolita’s duties include:
  • attending to complaints
  • conducting daily inspections on MyCiTi stations, routes and infrastructure
  • constant route patrols to ensure the safety of MyCiTi commuters
  • educating commuters about MyCiTi rules and contraventions
  • enforcing the rules
  • interacting to serve, protect and educate the public
  • issuing of notices
‘As we honour women for the role they play in our communities, homes and places of work in Women’s Month, I want to salute Lolita for the multiple roles she fulfils. This is from educating our commuters about safety and security, to looking after our infrastructure. It makes me proud to be part of the leadership of a City that offered her an opportunity to do what she loves and now she owns the space. Lolita also found herself in a predominantly male yet women-encouraging environment. She has been given the opportunity and is thriving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.

‘I have always wanted to be in uniform because it makes people look like they are in charge of situations. My passion is to serve, protect and educate and in my capacity, I am able to do just that. I do what I love. Although the environment is male dominated, I have not experienced challenges I could not handle. I also want to honour my late supervisor, Regional Inspector Cornelius Fortuin, under whose guidance and leadership I grew professionally and emotionally. He taught me a lot and I have accomplished a lot,’ said Lolita.
